Does it need to stay awake?

This is the serverless-versus-VPS question in plain words. Most things only need to exist while a request is in flight.

Only when someone visits A page, a form post, a function that wakes up, then sleeps. This site.
It has to keep a connection open Live chat, multiplayer, a game loop. A different sport than CRUD.
It has to run on a clock Every night, every minute, even if nobody is around. That is a job, not a page.
